Signature Tour — A pre-designed itinerary published by the operator, covering a specific route (Beijing-Xi'an-Shanghai, for example, or Yunnan 8 Days). Small customizations are possible — extending a day in one city, swapping a hotel category, adding a specific workshop — but the core structure is the operator's, not yours.

Bespoke Journey — An itinerary built from a blank page around your specific interests, dates, party composition, and dietary or mobility requirements. There is no published route. The operator interviews you (typically across 2–4 emails and one video call), proposes a draft, you revise, they refine, you confirm. Every element — which cities, which hotels, which specialists you meet, what pace you travel at — is a design decision made with your input.

The distinction matters because the work that goes into each is different. A Signature tour benefits from the operator's repeated refinement of the same route — the third time we run a 6-day Beijing itinerary, we know which restaurant to book for which night and which hutong walk works in which weather. The gap is not driven primarily by the on-the-ground service difference. The actual experience quality — guide caliber, hotel standard, vehicle class — is comparable between the two tiers at equivalent specifications. The gap is driven by:

• Custom design time. A Bespoke journey requires 8–15 hours of senior staff time to research, draft, revise, and confirm before you arrive. A Signature tour reuses design work already amortized across past clients.
• Bespoke-only specialist access. Some of our specialist relationships — particularly with smaller ICH workshops, private collections, and chefs — are not available on Signature tours because they have limited capacity. Booking these is part of what Bespoke pricing covers.

A Signature tour cannot reasonably accommodate the depth that a thematic trip requires. A textile-focused Bespoke journey might combine Suzhou silk workshops, Hangzhou's National Silk Museum, a Hunan Xiang embroidery master, and Guizhou Miao indigo dyeing — a sequence no Signature route covers.

What the Booking Process Looks Like

Signature: You select an itinerary from our published catalog, confirm dates, indicate hotel category preference, and pay a 30% deposit. Total time from inquiry to confirmation is typically 5–10 business days. We send a confirmation pack within 7 days of deposit covering your full schedule.

Bespoke: You send an inquiry describing your interests, dates, and party. We respond within 24 hours with clarifying questions. Over the following 2–3 weeks, we exchange 4–8 messages (or one video call plus emails), produce a draft itinerary, revise it twice, and confirm a final version. Deposit is paid at final confirmation. Total time from inquiry to confirmation is typically 3–5 weeks.

If your travel dates are within 90 days, we can compress the Bespoke design process if needed, but we don't recommend booking complex Bespoke trips at very short notice — the design quality benefits from time, and high-demand specialists and hotels need lead time.

Not currently — these regions are exclusively Bespoke at ChinaTourly because the audience is too small to justify pre-designed Signature itineraries. Do Bespoke prices include international flights?
