Refund & Cancellation Policy
Effective date: 1 January 2026 · Last updated: 14 May 2026
At ChinaTourly, we invest significant time, local coordination, and proprietary resources into each journey we build. Our cancellation policy reflects that reality — while remaining as fair as possible to our clients when circumstances genuinely change.
1. Deposit & Payment Schedule
To confirm a booking, we require a 30% non-refundable deposit of the total journey cost. The remaining 70% is due 60 days before the departure date.
For bookings made within 60 days of departure, the full journey cost is payable at the time of booking confirmation.
2. Cancellation by the Client
All cancellation requests must be made in writing to hello@chinatourly.com. The date we receive your written notice is the date used to calculate the applicable fee.
| Days Before Departure | Cancellation Fee | Amount Refunded |
|---|---|---|
| 90 days or more | 30% (deposit only) | 70% of total cost |
| 60 – 89 days | 50% of total cost | 50% of total cost |
| 30 – 59 days | 75% of total cost | 25% of total cost |
| Less than 30 days | 100% of total cost | No refund |
Note on third-party costs: Certain costs incurred on your behalf — including international flights booked through us, specialised permits (Tibet Travel Permit, restricted area permits), and non-refundable accommodation deposits — may not be recoverable regardless of the cancellation timeline. These will be clearly itemised in your journey proposal before payment.
3. Amendments & Date Changes
We understand that travel plans sometimes need to flex. We will always try to accommodate date changes at no extra administrative charge, subject to availability. Changes requested within 30 days of departure may incur supplier amendment fees, which we will pass on at cost with full transparency.
4. Cancellation by ChinaTourly
In the rare event that we must cancel your journey due to circumstances within our control, we will provide a full refund of all amounts paid within 14 business days. We will also work with you to find an alternative departure window or modified itinerary at no extra cost.
If the cancellation is caused by force majeure events beyond our control — including natural disasters, pandemics, government-issued travel bans, or civil unrest — we will issue a full credit note valid for 24 months, redeemable against any future ChinaTourly journey.
5. Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend that all clients purchase comprehensive travel insurance that includes cancellation cover, medical evacuation, and curtailment protection before making any payment. ChinaTourly accepts no liability for losses that would have been covered by appropriate travel insurance.
6. Refund Processing
Eligible refunds are processed via the original payment method within 14 business days of the written cancellation request being confirmed. International transfer fees, if any, are borne by the recipient.
